When will we advance to a type 1 civilization on the Kardashev scale?

Type 0 civilization

We are currently considered a sub-global civilization, technically Type 0, but on the way to Type one.

We are in the process of finding a great source of sustainable energy, although we still depend on organic and raw fuel sources, such as wood, coal and oil. We also use this type of fuel for chemical propulsion in our rockets, which makes space travel slow and difficult. We are confined to our home planet and struggle with ecological problems, such as natural disasters and climate change. But the good news is that physicists like Michio Kaku They believe that we are about to move forward, possibly in the next century.

Star Civilization Type 1

A stellar civilization is a few thousand years older than us. This level of society could harness all the energy of its local star. This is where things start to get interesting and the technology of this proportion becomes more difficult to understand. A theoretical model that parallels the Kardashev scale comes from Freeman Dyson, who conceived the dyson sphere . He formulated his theory in an article entitled, Search artificial stellar sources of infrared radiation , proposing a search for infrared radiation that could be seen in civilizations that harness the energy of their star with a Dyson Sphere.

Dyson theorized a progression of levels at which a civilization could begin to extract energy from its star, from a swarm of satellites to a spherical structure real that hovers around the star That could be inhabited. This method of extracting energy from a star in a controlled manner is called star elevation.

The civilizations of this size they would essentially have reached the level of immortality because they would have the ability to move planets and other astronomical bodies within their solar system. Imagine if we had the ability to block an incoming asteroid by moving Mars in its path.

Type 2 Galactic Civilization

Civilizations of this magnitude closely resemble those of Star wars . These civilizations would have the ability to harness the energy of any star in their galaxy, which would translate into approximately 10 billion times the energy harnessed by a level 2 civilization. At this point, such an advanced civilization would be essentially immune to the extinction, except for some kind of universal catastrophe.

The inhabitants of such an advanced civilization would probably be cyborgs or completely artificial. The capabilities of a society that could take advantage of such copious amounts of energy would be amazing. This civilization could even create its own stars, merge stars or capture gamma and quasar energy.

Galactic civilizations would probably be reaching a point, if they had not already done so, where black holes in the center of the galaxies would be considered as a potential resource. After draining the energy of billions of stars, these civilizations that act almost like black holes in themselves, could harness the energy released by supermassive singularities.

This is where the Kardashev scale ends. It is already quite difficult to perceive a civilization capable of taking advantage of the luminosity of an entire galaxy. However, some have continued the scope of their scale to conceive of larger civilizations in which science fiction has rarely, if ever, deepened.

Type 3 universal civilization

Hence the name, these civilizations would encompass the entirety of a universe. While galactic civilizations seem exaggerated, This level seems quite abstract. The capabilities of this culture could be within the reach of manipulating space-time, or slowing down the entropy to immortalize. It is likely that these beings harness dark energy and potentially live on the event horizon of a black hole.

Type 4 multiverse civilization

If there are multiple universes, there may be beings that have the ability to travel between them. These beings would have an understanding of different levels of matter, physics and spacetime that we could understand, unless, of course, we reach their hypothetical level in billions of years.

And beyond…

Where it ends The beings of other civilizations would have the ability to create multiple universes, a multiverse. Those who are not attentively firm may refer to this as God, but beyond the original Kardashev scale, all these civilizations are quite divine.

Some physicists currently classify us at around 0.73 on the scale with the probability that the advance to level 1 will occur within 100-200 years. One of the biggest obstacles facing a civilization to progress on the Kardashev scale is to create a Dyson Sphere or some equivalent. While it is difficult to conceive of a structure of this magnitude, he imagined that its predecessor would consist of a satellite network. With NASA sending a probe closer to the sun than ever, we are approaching a day when a Dyson Sphere or some iteration is feasible and we begin our Ascent to the next level on the Kardashev scale.
