About these terms
These terms apply to everyone who uses monkeyandelf.com, which is published by Monkey and Elf (“we”, “us”). By using the site, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. How we handle personal data is set out separately in the privacy policy.
What the archive is
Monkey and Elf publishes investigative essays on extraordinary claims, from ancient mysteries to modern sightings. Each case file is researched from the sources available when it was written and stamped with a verdict that reflects our editorial judgment of that evidence.
- Verdicts can change when new evidence appears. A stamp is our reading of the record, not a final ruling.
- Nothing on the site is medical, legal, financial or other professional advice. Do not rely on it in place of a qualified professional.
- Files in the Fiction wing are invented stories, written and stamped as fiction.
Using our content
Every file, text, design and resonance signature on the site belongs to Monkey and Elf unless it is credited to someone else. You are welcome to:
- Read, print or save files for your own personal use.
- Share links to any page.
- Quote short passages, with credit to Monkey and Elf and a link to the original file.
Without our written permission, please do not:
- Republish whole files or substantial parts of them, on another site, in print or in a video script.
- Copy the archive in bulk by any automated means, including scraping it to build datasets or to train artificial intelligence models.
- Present our work as your own, or remove credits and notices from it.
The Monkey and Elf name and logo identify this publication. Please do not use them in a way that suggests we endorse you or your work.
Images and other people's material
Some files use images, quotations and documents that belong to others. They are used to report on, review and investigate the material, and are credited where the owner is known. If you own something used here and want it credited differently or removed, write to us through the contact page and we will look at it promptly.
Comments
You keep ownership of what you write in a comment. By posting it, you allow us to publish it alongside the file and to keep it there. Comments are moderated, and we remove anything that:
- Abuses, threatens or harasses anyone.
- Shares another person's private information.
- Is spam, advertising or a link scheme.
- Impersonates someone else.
- Breaks the law or infringes someone else's rights.
Disagreeing with a verdict is welcome. The most useful comments bring a source.
Sending leads and material
When you send us a lead, an account of an encounter or a document, you allow us to use the information to investigate and write about it. We will not name you as a source unless you agree. If you send material that belongs to someone else, please tell us whose it is.
Links to other sites
Files link to outside sources so readers can check the evidence. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their availability or how they handle your data. A link is a citation, not an endorsement.
Advertising
The site is supported by ads served by Mediavine and its partners. We do not choose individual ads and do not endorse the products or services they promote. Advertisers have no say over what we investigate or how a file is stamped.
Accuracy and corrections
We work hard to get things right and correct mistakes when we find them or when readers point them out. Even so, the site is provided as it is, without any promise that every file is complete, current or free of errors. If you spot one, please tell us through the contact page.
Our responsibility
To the extent the law allows, Monkey and Elf is not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site, relying on its content, or being unable to reach it. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, or any rights you have as a consumer where you live.
Copyright complaints
If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, send us a notice through the contact page that includes:
- Your name and how to reach you.
- The work you believe has been infringed.
- The page on monkeyandelf.com where the material appears.
- A statement that you own the rights, or are authorised to act for the owner, and that the information in your notice is accurate.
We review every notice and remove or credit material where the complaint is valid.

We may update these terms as the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
