Billions of voracious insects have destroyed crops in East Africa in recent months, causing food shortages in the region already affected by poverty. Their swarms also spread to the Middle East and South Asia.
Saudi Arabia users have shared a disturbing video on social networks that shows an unspecified location in one of the deserts of the country where dozens of black formations could be seen in the form of drops in the sand.
However, in a closer look, it is clear that these are really myriads of tight locusts that begin to fly chaotically as the cameraman approaches.
The unusual behavior of insects is explained by the desert climate: by making such military formations ’, locusts can successfully withstand high winds.
The Middle East has been plagued with locusts lately with social media users across the region who share heartbreaking videos of locust armies that “invade” their homelands.

In addition to the Middle East, Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia were named among the countries most affected by locusts, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. However, locust invasions have also been reported in India, Pakistan and as far as in China.
