The Olmecs were the first known civilization in Mexico, forming the first Mesoamerican culture.
The truth is that it is unknown how they called themselves, but the Nahuas, or Mexicas, called them Olmecs or “inhabitants of the rubber country.”
They achieved great cultural development, building great cities and acquiring great technological and mathematical knowledge, such as the invention of the number 0, unknown in the West until 1202.
His great discoveries profoundly influenced the subsequent civilizations that populated the region. Its development began around 1,200 B.C. and its decline occurred around 400 B.C. They spread through what we know today as the state of Veracruz and Tabasco.
They were a culture that spread enormously commercially speaking, even influencing Costa Rica, finding traces, for example of its sculptures and various objects.
This means that they not only traded, but that their influence was intellectual, penetrating greatly in their neighboring civilizations.
The old city of La Venta is a clear example of its architectural and artistic style, with a city with large squares and staggered pyramid bases.
The first dated in Mesoamerica, and orienting the cities in a North-South direction, which shows that to build them, there was a planned urban layout.
This gives us an idea of how this extinct civilization was advanced.
The Olmec Gods
Their religion was polytheistic, worshiping different gods normally related to elements of nature or animals, but their advanced sculptural discipline gives us certain clues about the reptilian aspect that they conferred on their representations.

They did not have to learn anything, they had already learned it, in fact, these Asian peoples were great merchants, which would explain their rapid expansion in this sense throughout the American continent.
The appearance of these reptilian-looking gods are represented as a kind of divinities that helped them prosper and make those great changes so important to them.
In fact, very similar sculptures can be seen in Asia as in Mesoamerica, being later inherited by the Mayan civilization.
